Sarak-Dependable, Interesting, Candid, Always a smile

We hired Sarak for a two day tour of Angkor Wat. He arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and delivered to our hotel where he was waiting. He made sure the check in process went smoothly and then went over our agreed upon itinerary. He was very amenable to any last minute changes. He met us the following day at 8:30. He and our driver (his brother) were at the hotel early to greet us. Off we went. The heat was brutal. Sarak made sure to pace our day so we were most comfortable. He related the history and associated stories making the experience most interesting. All of our questions pertaining to any subject were answered accurately and candidly. After every stop, we could always count on his brother to have the car at the closest exit point to save us steps. He also made sure to have ice cold water and a very refreshing cold towel available which were life savers in that heat.

The next day we were up at 5:15 to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Sarak knew exactly where we would get the best view and we were not disappointed. We continued on to see the inside and various other temples. Sarak always was taking pictures and shared them with us when the tour was over to document wonderful memories. After the second day’s tour, it was back to the hotel to check out and then Sarak and his brother drove us out to the airport. Sarak made it a most memorable experience by making the experience seamless and worry free and perhaps most important it was delivered with a genuine smile by both him and his brother.

We were unsure if we wanted a guide for our two day visit to Angkor Watt or if we just wanted to wander around.

In the end we are so glad we took the guide option. Sarak our guide was excellent, explaining things when we wanted and leaving us to take as much time at each area as we wanted. We got so much more out of the wonderful experience of seeing these temples.

We were able to see the highlights of the complex and in many cases avoid the worst of the crowds.

We did not fully appreciate how far apart some of the temples are and getting to each independently would have been, not difficult, but tiring.

It is also very hot in the temples, with a lot of steep steps to climb. We have to say that having a car with air con and a driver with cold towels and water after each stop was wonderful.

Unless you have a lot of time in Siem Reap we thoroughly recommend the option.

A great 2 day tour with our guide Sarak – whose English was great and driver. As well as seeing the amazing sites of the temples around Angkor and hearing all about the history and stories of the area it was the little things that Sarak did that made it special. Things like making sure we cooled down in the shade before going out into the sun to see something, offering to take photos (brilliant) of us and also surreptitiously taking photos of us on his phone which he then sent to us. Also things like stopping to walk through a local village which was lovely. Our friendly driver provided us with cool towels and cold water throughout and always had a smile on his face. We never felt hurried throughout the tour and also felt we had an element of control – we decided against sunset as the day had been long and hot enough without waiting around for that and instead went back to our hotel for a dip in the pool.
