SILK FARM, 

WEST BARAY & WAR MUSEUM TOUR

Tour Details

We will come and pick you up after breakfast and drive out to visit the War Museum first, then to the Silk Farm and we can stop by West Baray to relax in hammocks and swim in the water before heading back to Siem Reap town.

West Baray

West Baray Lake is a reservoir popular man-made with visitors and locals. The lake which is nearly 8 kilometers long and more than 2 kilometers wide. In the middle is a small Hindu temple called West Mebon. It’s thought that the construction of the reservoir started with King Suryavarman and was completed by King Udayadityavarman II.

Nowadays, you can swim in the lake, relax in hammocks all go for a walk along the sandy edges. There are many places to eat here and lots of food on offer.

Silk Farm

The silk farm provides free tours of how high quality Cambodian silk is produced. You can see the entire process from the mulberry bushes which the silkworms feed on to the production of fabrics, clothes, and accessories. You can see how the silk is unwound, weaved, and dyed before being used it the final product.

War Museum

At the war museum you can take a free guide and learn about the last three decades of the 20th century. Visitors get an excellent opportunity to learn abou what happened in Cambodia during many years of war. The Khmer Rouge started a brutal regime led by Pol Pot from 1975 to 1979.

The subsequent civil war with the invasion of the Vietnamese in 1979 led to nearly another 2 decades of brutal fighting. You can see some of the weapons used and hear accounts of what people went through during this difficult time.

Visitors should be aware of local customs and visitors are asked to cover their knees and shoulders when entering the temples. Moreover, Cambodia is a very hot country, you should bring something to protect yourself from the sun.
