We will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel and start the drive to Banteay Meanchey to visit Banteay Chhmar temple. and then return back to Siem Reap and drop you off at your hotel.
Banteay Chhmar
Banteay Chhmar is located in Banteay Meanchey province along the way to the Thai border. This huge temple has massive shrines and a large reservoir. It’s one of the most important yet least understood of all the temples in Cambodia. The temple was built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII (1181 – 1220).
There are many intricate carvings in the temple. Some depict success and failed military engagements. The bas-reliefs here are very similar to the ones found in Bayon temple.
Temple with 56 Towers
The 4 giant faces surrounding on top of the towers are the faces, of the Buddhisatva-avalokesvara, mahayana Buddhism.
Banteay Chhmar temple was bult at the late of 12th century for the tomb of king Jayavarman VII ‘s son and also for dedicated to the king’s ancesters.
